TRIUMF Community Invited to Enter UK-Canada Research Photo Contest

The British High Commission in Ottawa is holding a photography contest to capture UK-Canadian scientific collaboration and we are delighted to help you participate! Does your current or future field or experiment link Canada and the UK in some way? If so, this is a great opportunity to exercise your creativity and showcase your work for a chance to win airfare to the UK and accommodation (up to £1000).

How to enter:

Entries for the competition must be submitted via online form before the contest closes at 12:00 EST on Monday, November 2, 2015. The winners will be announced Friday, November, 6 2015. Note only one photo submission per person.

How to enter:

  1. Take a picture that illustrates your interesting UK-Canada scientific collaborative work
  2. Provide a captivating title (3-5 words)
  3. Write a 150 word abstract describing how and why your research matters to others
  4. Write a 100 word explanation of how the research benefits from your UK-Canada collaboration

The photographic image can be anything that captures attention, but must be related to your UK-Canada collaborative research. Your image can feature an individual, situation or event, perhaps a gadget? Don’t be afraid to be creative. Entries should aim to raise the general public’s curiosity about the research issue that you are illustrating. What are the outputs of your research and where are its effects felt?

You can find further details – including image guidelines – and all official contest rules here.

Eligibility:

The competition is open to members of the Canadian and UK scientific research communities in all disciplines. These include:

  • Academic staff
  • Research fellows
  • Postdocs
  • Undergraduate and graduate students
  • Research technical support (e.g. electronic officers, lab and research technicians)
