TRIUMF's Technology Transfer Division is pleased to announce that Advanced Applied Physics Solutions, Inc. has been chosen as one of the 25 finalists for the 2008 Centres for Excellence for Commercialization and Research (CECR) Competition.

The CECR Program is a key element of the federal government's Science and Technology Strategy. The Program supports the operation of commercialization and/or research Centres that bring together people, services, and infrastructure to maximize the benefits of the government's investments in skills and research and to encourage greater private sector investment in science and technology.

This year's competition saw 110 eligible applications submitted in the Letters of Intent Phase. Each of the 25 have received small awards to help defray some of the cost of preparing final proposals, which must be submitted by October 31st.

TRIUMF's Letter of Intent identified a number of areas in which Canada is positioned to leverage its investment in fundamental research and deliver economic, social, and environmental benefits to Canadians. Its LOI outlined an innovative plan to facilitate the rapid development and commercialization of beneficial techniques emerging from worldwide research technologies in subatomic physics.

A total of $165M is available for the 2008 Competition. A projected total of 11 centres will be funded and normally receive $15M over five years. Winners of the competition will be announced on March 31, 2008.
