TRIUMF Themes for Microsoft Office

XML-based themes and the Style Guide

Recent versions of Microsoft Office (Office '07 and '08) use XML-based file formats for documents, templates and document themes. XML-based themes can be used to create new documents with a consistent look and feel. 

This page shows you how to apply XML-based theme files that adhere to the TRIUMF Style Guide. These themes have been prepared for use by TRIUMF staff and affiliates. 

Most of the TRIUMF templates already adhere to the Style Guide and do not need themes installed to work. However, note that the themes here are still helpful, as they make the colours and typefaces easily accessible when additional content is added.

Themes are only supported by Office for Windows '07 and Office for Mac '08.

 

Step 1: Download themes

Download the themes to your computer. These xml files contain the TRIUMF colour & font themes.

Download all 5 Themes (.zip folder)

  1. TRIUMF Alternate.thmx
  2. TRIUMF Alternate.xml
  3. TRIUMF.xml
  4. TRIUMF Preferred.thmx
  5. TRIUMF Preferred.xml

 

In the folder are:

TRIUMF Preferred themes

  • Used for external documents (Letters, Brochures, Posters, Newsletters, etc.)
  • Text: Garamond
  • Headings: Myriad Pro

TRIUMF Alternate themes

  • Used for Presentations and internal documents (Forms, Policies, Procedures, TSOPs, etc.)
  • Text: Times New Roman
  • Headings: Arial

TRIUMF.xml

  • This is the TRIUMF Colour Theme

Note: Themes are only supported by Office for Windows '07 and Office for Mac '08.

 

Step 2: Apply xml themes

Window Users

Apply and Save a document theme in Office

 

Mac Users

In the Finder, follow these menus:

Users
- Username
- Library
- Application Support
- Microsoft
- Office
- User Templates
- My Themes

 

In the "My Themes" folder, place:

  • TRIUMF Alternate.thmx
  • TRIUMF Preferred.thmx

 

In the "Theme Colors" folder, place:

  • TRIUMF.xml

 

In the "Theme Fonts" folder, place:

  • TRIUMF Alternate.xml
  • TRIUMF Preferred.xml

 

 

Step 3: Use the themes!

Applying TRIUMF themes to new Office documents

To apply TRIUMF Themes automatically to all new documents.

  • find the "normal.dot" file on your computer
  • Open it
  • Apply a TRIUMF Theme (Preferred or Alternate Fonts, and Colour)
  • Save normal.dot

All new documents in Word will open with the selected TRIUMF theme.
