All incoming mail is received daily by mid-morning. The mail is then sorted into the appropriate department or individual mail slots which have been assigned to the employee. Outgoing mail is sent to the post office on a daily basis. If you have outgoing mail, or Campus mail, it should be brought to the mailroom and placed in the appropriate bin for processing. The TRIUMF postage meter is not to be used for personal mail. It is the responsibility of the employee to ensure there is sufficient postage on any personal mail that is placed in the outgoing mail bin. Postage may be purchased from the mailroom staff.
Outgoing Canadian and international mail goes via Canada Post, and may be placed in the box labelled CANADA POST and INTERNATIONAL in the mail room.
Mail is picked up between 9 AM and noon Monday through Friday.
Outgoing mail to the United States travels via Spring Mail Services, and may be placed in the box labelled USA MAIL in the mailroom. Mail is picked up between 2 and 3 PM Monday through Friday. Spring Mail is a more cost-effective alternative for mail going to the USA and its speed is comparable to Canada Post.
Outgoing mail to UBC, UVic or SFU is sent via Campus & Intercampus Mail Systems, and may be placed in the box labelled CAMPUS MAIL in the mailroom.
Personal mail must be paid for at one's own expense. Please see the Office Services Assistant to arrange payment.
Incoming mail arrives daily between 10 AM and noon, and is distributed as soon as Office Services is able.
For mail questions please call the Office Services Assistant at ext. 7475.
Courier deliveries are handled by reception. If a courier package arrives for you, you will be notified by the receptionist or by receiving. If you have a courier package to send out, the package, plus mailing instructions and an account number, should be given to the receptionist. All standard couriers are sent by DHL and must be at reception by 3:00. Any couriers that need to be delivered by next day are sent by FedEx and must be at reception by 2:00. For any international packages (including the USA) a commercial invoice must be filled out and they are available at reception. Larger packages or equipment should be handled through the Shipping and Receiving department.
TRIUMF typically uses UBC Bike Couriers for campus items, VanCity couriers for local items, DHL for national & international items, and FedEx for special high-priority items. Please bring your item to reception to arrange courier pick-up. The cut-off for DHL is 3:00 PM, and for FedEx is 2:00 PM.
