Z' and Excited Lepton Searches updated with 5/fb

06 March 2012

The Z' and excited lepton analyses are among the first ATLAS Beyond the Standard Model searches that have been updated to the full 2011 dataset of 5/fb and are being shown at the ongoing winter conferences. We now exclude a Z' (Sequential Standard Model) below 2.21 TeV and Randall-Sundrum Gravitons below 2.16 TeV. All excited electron and muon hypotheses are excluded below 2 TeV. These represent the most stringent limits to date. For more information see the ATLAS public Z' page and the excited lepton page.

LHC to run at 8 TeV in 2012

13 February 2012

The LHC will run with a beam energy of 4 TeV this year, 0.5 TeV higher than in 2010 and 2011.

Z' search published in PRL

31 January 2012

The ~1/fb summer  result that we submitted to PRL is now published. The reference is: Phys. Rev. Lett. 107, 272002 (2011). This analysis sets stringent limits on spin-1 Z' (1.83 TeV) and spin-2 Graviton (1.63 TeV) resonances. The result was also featured in last months edition of CERN COURIER, click here. We are working on the next paper with 5/fb, the full 2011 dataset.

News on SUSY

27 January 2012

SUperSYmmetry is one of the most promising theories for Physics Beyond the Standard Model. The TRIUMF group, in collaboration with the UBC group, has released the result of a search for SUSY in events with at least four leptons and missing transverse momentum. What is data telling us?

Hundredth ATLAS Physics Paper Submitted

05 January 2012

ATLAS has just submitted its hundredth paper based on collision data for publication!  For a full list of ATLAS published (or submitted) papers see https://twiki.cern.ch/twiki/bin/view/AtlasPublic

End of 2011 run

07 December 2011

Today is the last day of the 2011 heavy ion run at the LHC; Christmas shutdown starts tomorrow.  Looking forward to next year, and even more data!

2011 Proton run ends on a high note with over 5 fb-1 of data

31 October 2011

ATLAS received its last proton-proton fill of 2011 this weekend.  Altogether we took more than five times as much data as we had originally set as the goal for this year.  Full story.

Post-doc position available with TRIUMF ATLAS group

24 August 2011

We are looking for an additional post-doc based either at TRIUMF or at CERN.

Successful ATLAS thesis defence for TRIUMF student!

24 August 2011

Congratulations to Ewan Hill, who successfully defended his MSc thesis on "A measurement of the Cosmic Muon Flux in ATLAS" yesterday...

We have our first inverse femtobarn of data from ATLAS!

15 June 2011

Yesterday evening the LHC exceeded 1/fb of delivered luminosity in 2011.
The integrated luminosity recorded by ATLAS also exceeds 1/fb including
959/pb in 2011 + 45/pb in 2010, thanks also to a data-taking efficiency of almost 96%.
