TRIUMF : Canada's National Laboratory for Particle and Nuclear Physics

The historical core of the TRIUMF molecular and materials science research program utilizes muon spin rotation, relaxation and resonance (μSR) techniques based on the unmatched capability of the positive muon (μ+) to detect the magnetic field at its microscopic location. It is now well recognized that this capability enables μSR to provide unique information over a very wide range of disciplines. Specifically, μSR has been applied to the study of magnetism, superconductivity, semiconductors and semi-metals, quantum diffusion, molecular bonding states, and fundamental and complex chemical reactions.
Topics studied at the Centre for Molecular and Materials Science include:
TRIUMF also operates a proton & neutron irradiation facility.
