Current Events 50th anniversary of beam: World’s Most Colourful Cyclotron poster now available 06 March 2024 This year marks 50 years of beam and continued impact the lab’s main science driver, our 520 MeV cyclotron, has had on global science and discovery.  To spotlight this remarkable milestone, the Communications team has developed an illustrated artwork that showcases the hero of this epic - The World’s Most Colourful Cyclotron. Print copies are available across the TRIUMF site, and digital downloads are available here.
New Hires Introducing TRIUMF’s new Radiation Safety Officer 29 February 2024 TRIUMF would like to introduce our lab’s new Radiation Safety Officer (RSO), Roxana Ralea. Roxana draws on experience and skills gained in over 15 years of dedicated service in radiation safety and management of radioactive materials, including many years at TRIUMF.
Auto Screen Lock Deployment 27 February 2024 To improve TRIUMF’s cybersecurity posture and in line with our Acceptable Use Policy, we deployed automatic screen lock functionality for all TRIUMF managed Windows devices at 12:00 PM on Thursday, March 14, 2024.
Experimental Result New tools in nuclear astrophysics toolbox enable novel alpha-n studies for DRAGON and EMMA 06 February 2024 In the fascinating realm of nuclear physics, two sister facilities, DRAGON (ISAC-I) and EMMA (ISAC-II), have been making strides in advancing our understanding of nuclear reactions and their astrophysical implications, including how and at what rate elements are formed within different life stages of stars, including their deaths in powerful explosions.
Funding Announcements TRIUMF welcomes BC Health Minister to announce IAMI funding 30 January 2024 This morning, TRIUMF welcomed BC Health Minister, Adrian Dix, into the Meson Hall, where he announced the province is investing $32 million through $21 million to BC Cancer for the new cyclotron and radiopharmacy laboratory and approximately $11 million to TRIUMF to advance research. In addition, the BC Cancer Foundation has provided $3.5 million to support capital investments and $15 million in funding for critical cancer research, for a total of $50.5 million.
Awards & Honours ALPHA experiment included in CBC's significant science stories list for 2023 22 January 2024 TRIUMF physicists on the ALPHA-g team, an international collaboration based at CERN, were involved in an experiment that CBC Radio's Quirks and Quarks show host, Bob McDonald, has deemed as the second most Significant Science Story of 2023
Research Highlights TRIUMF to provide key neutron diagnostics for fusion energy demonstration as part of General Fusion MOU 19 December 2023 As part of a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with General Fusion signed in October 2023, TRIUMF is undertaking the development of critical diagnostic technologies to support General Fusion’s Magnetized Target Fusion (MTF) demonstration, also called Lawson Machine 26 (LM26).
Research Highlights Canadian contribution to critical cryomodules for high luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider officially begins 04 December 2023 With a wave goodbye to departing colleagues from the 13th annual of meeting the High-Luminosity Large Hadron Collider (Hi-Lumi or HL-LHC) project collaboration, Canadian accelerator physics researchers are now turning their sights on their next major objective: the fabrication of key cryomodules that will host specialized `crab’ cavities as part of the high luminosity upgrade of the Large Hadron Collider (LHC).
Headlines QRT Inc. and TRIUMF strengthen partnership to support neutron beam R&D at NIF 08 November 2023 QRT Inc. and the PIF & NIF team at TRIUMF are taking new steps to further strengthen a collaborative program of research and development at the laboratory’s neutron irradiation facilities (NIF), bolstering an existing memorandum of understanding (MOU) and bringing online new analysis technologies to improve test accuracy and efficiency.
