The TSI2024 will take place from Aug. 11-17 at TRIUMF, Vancouver (Canada). This school precedes the 14th Int. Conference on Nucleus-Nucleus Collision (NN2024) in Whistler (Aug. 18-23) and will give students and young researchers a deeper introduction into some of the topics of the conference.
The topics of the TSI2024 include: Fusion and Fission, Nuclear Reactions, Nuclear Astrophysics, Heavy and Superheavy Elements, and Instrumentation and Facilities
The TSI2024 is open to domestic and international graduate students and post-docs. Acceptance to the school is limited to 40 participants. A letter of reference is required from your supervisor for the application process.
January 1, 2024: Pre-Registration and application opens
March 1, 2024: Deadline for application and letter of reference from supervisor
March 15, 2024: Accepted students informed
April 15, 2024: Deadline for registration and full payment from accepted students
April 15, 2024: Deadline for visa letter
There will be a small registration fee of C$100 to attend the TSI2024. The school includes catered lunches (Mon-Fri), as well as a welcome reception on Monday afternoon and the school dinner on Thursday evening. For out-of-town participants we have reserved 20 rooms on UBC campus which have to be booked and paid with the full registration.
The application process for TSI2024 is now closed.
Numbers will be limited to 40 participants and an application process will be used.
This will be a 3-step process.
1. Apply and submit reference letter from your supervisor (by March 1, 2024).
2. Receive acceptance mail from TSI organizers (by March 15, 2024).
3. Register and pay your accomodation fee (by April 15). We will only issue visa invitation letters to international participants after they have paid their accomodation fee.
Visas:
US citizens carrying a valid US Passport do not require a Visa to come to Canada.
As of March 15, 2016 any delegates from visa-exempt countries will need to apply for an electronic travel authorization (eTA). The eTA costs $7.00 and is valid for 5 years. It allows for pre-screening of visa-exempt nationals. This application needs to be done BEFORE you check-in at the airport. Allow at least 24h for processing time. Please see the link for details related to the eTA process.
If you are not from one of these visa-exempt countries, you may need a visa to enter Canada. Please refer to the Government of Canada site for instructions on how and who needs to apply for a Visitor’s Visa to come to Canada.
Residents of countries listed on the webpage for visa-required travellers will need an Invitation Letter from the School Organizers to attach to their Visitor’s Visa Application. We are only issuing these letters AFTER you have been accepted to the school and paid the accomodation fee. Please give sufficient time (at least 3 months) for processing. The city of Vancouver is located on the mainland of North America, in the southwest corner of British Columbia, which is the westernmost of Canada's ten provinces. It is bordered by the Pacific Ocean and the Coastal range mountains, providing plenty outdoor activities, winter and summer. It is being said Vancouver is the only major city where you can go skiing and take a dip in the ocean on the very same day (without freezing too much). Having hosted the 2010 Winter Olympic Games, it offers rich cultural diversity, spectacular scenery, world-class meeting facilities and a wealth of amenities. Conference venues, accommodation, restaurants, theatres, and recreational opportunities are readily available in this beautiful Pacific Coast location.
30 rooms have been set aside for out-of-town TSI2024 participants at the Orchard Commons on the UBC campus. These accomodations are only a 30 minute walk from TRIUMF and close to the bus loop at UBC from where you can take bus #049 (10min to TRIUMF).
Rooms and rates:
Orchard Semi-Private unit: Two-bedroom units, each private bedroom has a single bed, with a shared washroom between the two rooms.
Costs: $100 per person per night (including all taxes and fees).
Rooms are available from Sat, Aug. 10th until Sun, Aug. 18th.
Instructions on how to book and pay for the accomodation will be provided to accepted participants.
We offer partial travel support to participating students and postdocs who are supervised by members of the Canadian Institute of Nuclear Physics (CINP) . Eligible students will be contacted after full registration.

Mon - Fri (Aug 12-16) 12:30-2:00pm: Lunch (included for participants).
Mon afternoon (Aug 12): TRIUMF tour and reception.
Tue - Fri (Aug 13-16) afternoon: Tutorials.
Thu (Aug 15) 7:00pm (tbc): School dinner at location TBA.
Sat (Aug 17): Hike (optional).
Sun (Aug 18) 10:00am (tbc): Bus transport to the NN2024 in Whistler.

In Vancouver, the largest city of British Columbia, the climate is oceanic, cool and humid, with relatively mild, rainy winters and cool, fairly sunny summers. The west coast is the only part of Canada in which the average temperature remains above freezing (0 °C or 32 °F) even in winter, and Vancouver is the only major city not having a freezing winter.
