30 September 2019

TRIUMF is pleased to announce that Ms. Joanna Carson has been confirmed as the lab’s new Chief Financial Officer (CFO), effective October 1st, 2019. She succeeds TRIUMF’s previous CFO, Henry Chen.

Carson brings over two decades of experience in financial stewardship, budget management, compliance, and partnership development at Canada’s leading universities. Most recently, she held the position of Portfolio Finance Director at the University of British Columbia, and continues to serve as an appointed member of the UBC Staff Pension Plan Board of Directors. Carson obtained a Master of Business Administration from Queen’s University, a Bachelor of Arts from the University of Toronto and is a Chartered Professional Accountant (CPA).

As CFO, Carson will oversee TRIUMF’s financial management and work to build partnerships with key stakeholders to grow the lab’s fiscal portfolio and achieve its strategic targets. Collaborating with TRIUMF’s internal community and with partners across the TRIUMF network, Carson will support the lab’s research and development initiatives as laid out in the TRIUMF 2020-2025 Five Year Plan.

“As CFO, I look forward to ensuring that TRIUMF is effectively and accountably managing our assets, diversifying our funding portfolio, and building critical connections at the intersection of academia, industry, and government,” said Carson. “TRIUMF is world-renowned for its research excellence, its leadership in technology transfer, and its critical role in bringing the benefits of isotope science to the world. I am excited to be joining the TRIUMF team at this critical moment in the lab’s growth.”

“We are very pleased to welcome Joanna Carson to the lab as our new CFO,” said TRIUMF Director Dr. Jonathan Bagger. “We are confident that with her extensive experience and demonstrated leadership, she will play a key role in helping TRIUMF realize its ambitious goals for the coming years and beyond.”

Welcome aboard, Joanna!
