(Vancouver, BC) -- Premier Gordon Campbell will officially open the new ISAC-II building on Wednesday June 11th at TRIUMF, Canada's National Laboratory for Nuclear and Particle Physics.
ISAC is the premier facility in the world for producing exotic atoms of great scientific interest. Using these atoms, scientists can explore fundamental questions about the nature of matter in the universe and how it is evolving, explore new man-made materials, and investigate the potential for new medical procedures. ISAC II will be a significant advance on the already successful ISAC I facility, which involves collaborations with over 20 countries.
The ISAC-II building was built with an $8.7 million dollar grant from the BC Knowledge Development Fund whose focus is to create and enhance research infrastructure within BC. TRIUMF is a joint venture of five Canadian member universities with seven associate member universities. The ISAC-II opening takes place at 10 am, Wednesday June 11th at TRIUMF.
