Instructions for Authors Preparing Contributions for the
TRIUMF Annual Report Scientific Activities 1999
The annual report will be produced using LaTeX2e and figures will be included
as Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) files.
The skeleton LaTeX file
ann_rep_skeleton.tex
should be downloaded and used for all contributions.
Authors should read the example PostScript file by viewing or printing
ann_rep_example.ps.
This file contains full instructions for preparing contributions.
The .tex file
ann_rep_example.tex
that was used to produce the example PostScript file can also be used as a
guide.
Authors should ensure that their contributions LaTeX and dvips correctly
prior to submission, especially with regard to the figures.
If authors submitted figures for the 1998 annual report, they should study
the post mortem of the 170 figures to see
what editing, if any, was necessary in order to be able to use them in the
annual report.
Please try to correct any errors before submitting similar figures this
year.
Authors are asked to take special note of the following requirements,
especially those relating to figures, captions and macros.
- Contributions should be concise.
- Figures should be of high quality when scaled to single-column width
(83 mm) or double-column width (175 mm).
- Figures must be supplied as Encapsulated PostScript (EPS) files with
correct bounding boxes.
- Figures must not have borders (frame boxes).
- Figure and table captions must be
provided.
- Photographs must be in focus, have good contrast, be sized as above,
and be scanned at 200 dpi. Colour photographs are preferred. When
scanning, ensure that the photograph is cropped properly so that there
is no whitespace surrounding the image.
- Other figures not available as EPS files should be scanned at 600 dpi
for line drawings or 200 dpi for colour or greyscale. Ensure precise
cropping of the figure so that there is no whitespace surrounding the
image.
- Standard symbols and abbreviations should be used, as set forth in the AIP
Style Manual and/or International System of Units.
- Do not use macros.
Instead, write all symbols, equations and
definitions out in full.
- Append a list of all journal or conference publications that were
published, in press, or submitted during 1999.
- List all theses awarded in association with the work during 1999. Provide
name, thesis title, type of degree, department and institution awarding
degree.
- Please note that a copy of all
TRIUMF-related theses should be submitted to the TRIUMF Library for
permanent display.
- If you are unsure of something, please refer to the
TRIUMF Annual Report Scientific Activities 1998
for visual assistance or contact the
Publications Office.
Guidelines for Science Division Authors
As in previous years, you are asked to provide status reports for any
currently active experiments (receiving or about to receive beam) as well as
for experiments which have received beam in the last four years. If any
experiment has been "completed" and has been written up in final form in a
previous annual report, please inform the Publications Office of the fact
(E-mail to annrep@triumf.ca) and
also provide details of the final publications which reported the results
and any theses which resulted from the work.
Contributions relating to Life Sciences experiments should be submitted in a
similar manner to subatomic physics experiments, using the LS experiment number
in the contribution heading.
Science Division contributors should also list the names and affiliations of
all people presently associated with their experiment and the present status of
the experiment. The information will be used to update Appendix D and Appendix
E.
Please E-mail your contribution to annrep@triumf.ca, including any
EPS figure files as attachments, or send a message giving details of where
the unprotected files can be accessed and copied.
A hardcopy of your contribution should also be sent to the Publications
Office for comparison with the electronic version.
Guidelines for Authors from Other Divisions
Contributions for other divisions should be sent to the division secretaries.
As usual, Division Heads will be asked to review contributions from their
division and to provide an introduction.
