PSRC Meeting

August 19th, 2010 at 13:00 in the MOB Boardroom

Present: Stu Austen (Chair), Curtis Ballard, John Drozdoff, Brenda Morrey, Colin Morton, Mike Mouat

Absent: Jennifer Kaban, Niki Martin, Doug Preddy

1.      PPR Increases/Bonuses & Ratings

Mike had spoken to Josie about the criteria for determining how increases and bonuses were administered with respect to PPR ratings.  He was given a copy of an undated document titled 2010 Salary Adjustment Guidelines.  Mike reviewed the document and will email it to committee members for further discussion.  The document provides guidelines for the movement of different employee group members along salary scales versus the allocation of bonuses but the guidelines are very discretionary.  The greater concern is that Group Leaders were never told how the guidelines were applied to their subordinates, creating potential discrepancies and conflicts between individuals.

Josie will be invited to the next PSRC meeting to discuss this and other issues.

2.      Approval and Posting of Minutes

An amended version of the June 17 PSRC meeting minutes was accepted and approved.  One amendment was Nigel’s clarification of a statement that senior management felt that P&S staff were not overworked.  The actual statement was more to the effect that morale amongst P&S staff was low, but it was not because they were overworked.  A second amendment was to add the introduction of HST as another reason why the timing of pay parking was poor.

The July 22 PSRC meeting minutes were accepted and approved with the correction of 'P&G' to 'P&S'.

Stu reiterated his intent to have all PSRC meeting minutes posted on the PSRC website.

3.      AOB

A need for more bicycle racks - perhaps double the present capacity - was noted and Curtis intends to keep the request in mind as the area is reconfigured for the ARIEL project.  A wish list for other amenities would include lockers.

TRIUMF’s policy on payment for retirement gifts or flowers to mark important occasions is unclear.  Josie may be able to provide clarification at the next meeting.

It appears that the search for a new Head of Science Division may successfully conclude after Labour Day.
