TRIUMF PSRC Meeting

February 8, 2007 13:00 – 14:15

Attending: Stu Austen (Chair), Curtis Ballard, John Drozdoff, Ann Fong, Brenda Morrey, Mike Mouat, Klaus Reiniger, Roman Ruegg (Ex-officio)

Guests: Jim Hanlon, Josie Farrell

The Committee approved the minutes from the February 1 meeting. Klaus Reiniger joined the rest of the Committee in having no objections to his photo being posted on the PSRC web site.

All members participated in a short discussion about the difficulty in keeping Job Descriptions up-to-date and accurate. This was seen as being a fundamental supervisory responsibility and one that was probably easier to manage if Job Description reviews and revisions were tied to the annual PPR process. The comment was also made that a considerable amount of policy documentation will require a revision as a result of the recent reorganization of TRIUMF.

Jim Hanlon and Josie Farrell joined the Committee meeting at 13:35. They had some concerns about the process of the recent reorganization and shared thoughts about what future reorganization might bring, especially in light of a departing Director and retiring Division Heads. Management appears open to discussion and recommendations, especially regarding the future of the Administration Division which the new Director will head beginning May 1.

Jim Hanlon also mentioned that there was a functional organization chart, but that its only purpose was to document the role of TRIUMF committees. It could not be used as a tool to replace the functionality of individual retirees.

The confidentiality of the Task Force reports on the reorganization of TRIUMF was also raised as an issue. It was felt that the reports could be made available for anyone to read but were not to be copied and freely distributed.
