Chris Griffin

Chris began his academic career at the University of Edinburgh where he achieved a Master of Physics (Honours) degree in 2013. He continued his studies there, undertaking a Ph.D. developing and commissioning the Advanced Implantation Detector Array (AIDA). In 2019 he moved to TRIUMF to begin a post-doctoral research fellowship with the Exotic Decay Spectroscopy group.

While he is passionate about nuclear astrophysics in general, his research focuses on the study of exotic neutron-rich isotope decays as part of the BRIKEN collaboration at RIKEN, and the ILIMA collaboration at GSI, with a specific interest in β-delayed neutron emission. A growing part of his research is the development of a new heavy ion detector for use at the ESR and CR storage rings for the operation of FAIR at GSI, utilising the technical skills he has obtained so far and his fondness for scratching his head in confusion.

When not in the lab, you are most likely to find Chris in his natural habitat out in the mountains or scouring local restaurants and food trucks for anything new and exciting.
