TIGRESS -- Spectroscopy with Fast Exotic Beams

TIGRESSVeryProfessional

TIGRESS is the TRIUMF-ISAC Gamma-Ray Escape Suppressed Spectrometer.  It is a state-of-the-art spectrometer designed to detect the high-frequency light, or gamma rays, emitted from excited atomic nuclei produced at ISAC.  It is used in a broad program of research addressing fundamental questions ranging from how the chemical elements were prodcued in the explosions of stars, through ow the atomic nucleus responds to the stresses of unusual neutron-to-proton ratios, to how the basic building blocks of matter interact at the most fundamental level.

« TIGRESS» signifie «TRIUMF-ISAC Gamma-Ray Escape Suppressed Spectrometer».

Major capital investment and operation is funded by the Natural Science and Engineering Research Council of Canada.  Infrastructure and installation support is provided by TRIUMF, Canada's national laboratory for nuclear and particle physics.   TRIUMF receives federal funding via a contribution agreeement through the National Research Council Canada.  The Canadian Foundation for InnovationOntario Innovation Trust, and British Columbia Knowledge Development Fund have also provided funds for initial development work.
