BCIT-TRIUMF WIL Program

The BCIT and TRIUMF Work-Integrated Learning (WIL) initiative offers BCIT students access to TRIUMF's unique cross-disciplinary work experiences to hone their skills, and offers TRIUMF staff a cohort of highly-trained and energetic talent to support their work environments. TRIUMF hires >120 undergraduate students throughout the year for placements lasting a few weeks to the whole year.

BCIT students will be fully integrated into all work and social aspects of a world-class researtch environment, working side by side in a collaborative and inclusive environment with professionals and students from across Canada and around the world working in a wide variety of fields. 

The Student Program liaises with various BCIT WIL programs to place students within TRIUMF into all areas of laboratory operations, from research and engineering, to administration and entrepreneurship.  


Opportunities for BCIT students

TRIUMF hires undergraduates students for work and internship placements into all areas of the laboratory, from administration through to experimental science.  Some examples include:

  • mechatronics
  • mechanical engineering
  • electrical engineering
  • machine learning and high-level applications
  • accounting
  • asset management
  • entrepreneurship
  • communications/media
  • CNC machinist
  • engineering designer
  • plumbing/millwright/electrical trades
  • occupational health and safety

BCIT Student Skill Sets (for TRIUMF employers)

Different than a college or university, BCIT offers practical, applied education with instructors who have direct, hands-on experience in their field.  The intense, hands-on skills that BCIT receive in a variety of technical and administrative areas are a great match for many staff at TRIUMF seeking to complement their teams with energetic and motivated young talent who up to date on the latest techniques.

BCIT Industry Sponsored Student Projects (ISSP)

Industry Sponsored Student Project (ISSP) program is a three-way partnership between the sponsoring organizations, the students and the institution.

BCIT runs the program throughout the year, with terms starting in Winter, Spring, Summer and Fall.

Currently accepting applications for the Spring term - April 19-18, 2023 - applications are due March 23, 2023.

Types of suitable computing projects can include problem-solving, proof-of-concept, engineering, or research and development. Projects from any industry are welcome for consideration.
