TRIUMF Brand Identity FAQ

IMPLEMENTING THE REFRESHED BRAND IDENTITY

Will I receive support on implementing TRIUMF’s revised brand identity?

Yes! As we roll out the implementation in phases, you will be supported in a few ways:

  • You have access to a collection of self-serve resources including:

    • TRIUMF’s Brand Identity Guide, a tool kit that contains the basic components and assets you need to further our mission through a wide range of communications, graphic elements, visual assets, and more

    • Logo files (available for download here)

    • A portfolio of templates and assets that have been released - with more on the way - to support you in consistently implementing the revised brand identity. You can access them here

    • TRIUMF's brand typeface, Helvetica Neue, which is licensed for use by TRIUMF staff. To obtain your typeface files - and instructions on how to install them - click here

    • This FAQ, which will continue to be updated to support you through the implementation.
Pro tip: You may wish to bookmark this resource page.

  • Members of TRIUMF’s Strategic Communications team can speak to you or your team about implementing the revised brand identity. Please contact us at communications@triumf.ca or drop by our office space (first floor of the Main Office Building) for details.

Can’t I simply place the new logo over my old materials?

We get where you’re coming from, and kindly ask that you collaborate with us to fully and consistently implement our refreshed visual identity - which is more than a logo. The visual identity refresh involves a system of complementary creative elements that go with the logo. Please review and familiarize yourself with TRIUMF’s Brand Identity Guide to review full treatment solutions. Consult Diana Castañeda (diana@triumf.ca) in TRIUMF’s Strategic Communications team as needed to review possibilities.

BRAND IDENTITY GUIDE & TEMPLATES

When will the TRIUMF Brand Identity Guide be available for use and where can I find it?

The TRIUMF Brand Identity Guide is available online. You can think of it like a tool kit that contains the basic components and assets you need to further our mission through a wide range of communications, graphic elements, visual assets, and more. This is a living document, and in line with TRIUMF’s commitment to continuous improvement, we’ll release updates over time, so we encourage you to check back every now and then to ensure you have the latest version.

What refreshed templates are available for use and where can I find them?

As part of our phased implementation, we presently have a collection of basic templates available that we are asking the TRIUMF community to use. They are available here and include:

  • Presentation templates

    • Corporate presentation template

    • Scientific presentation template

  • Electronic letterhead template

Are you producing any other templates?

Yes. As part of our phased implementation process, we’ll be releasing a portfolio of other templates over the next few months, including:

  • Poster templates

  • Internal document templates (e.g. controlled documents, memos, etc.)

  • And more!

As they become available, templates will be posted here.

You don’t have a template I need. What should I do?

Please contact Diana Castañeda in TRIUMF’s Strategic Communications team at diana@triumf.ca to discuss your project.

Where can I download the brand typeface?

TRIUMF's brand typeface, Helvetica Neue, is licensed for use by TRIUMF staff. To obtain your typeface files - and instructions on how to install them - click here. When access to Helvetica Neue is not possible, TRIUMF's Brand Identity Guide allows the use of Arial. Please follow the same pattern for hierarchy: Arial Regular for display and body, and Arial Bold for headings.

STATIONERY & COLLATERAL

Should new collateral communications and materials reflect the new brand identity?

Yes. For specific advice about your project or initiative, please contact Diana Castañeda in TRIUMF’s Strategic Communications team at diana@triumf.ca.

Do I have to throw away or replace every piece of material I have that reflects the old visual today?

To help reduce costs, we are implementing the refreshed visual identity in phases. The goal is to fully transition into the refreshed identity before the end of 2018. During this transition period, we are encouraging members of the TRIUMF community to use up their current physical supplies. As your refresh or re-order cycles occur or you seek to produce new assets, please take every opportunity to update your materials with our refreshed visual identity. Please do not produce any new materials unless they carry the revised identity.

How do I order new stationery?

Please follow the current process for ordering letterhead and envelopes.

How do I get a new business card?

The portal to order business cards has been updated. Business cards are part of our phased implementation through the end of 2018, hence during this time we are asking staff to first use their existing printed before ordering new cards (unless they have approval from their ALD).

What other assets and collateral are you producing and when will it be available?

As part of our phased implementation process, we’ll be producing a collection of refreshed assets and collateral over the next year, including:

  • Additional stationery elements, such as TRIUMF thank you cards and notebooks

  • A selection of TRIUMF branded merchandise for sale (seeking input from the TRIUMF community on this!)

  • Revised TRIUMF communications materials

  • And more!

GENERAL

What’s going on with the website?

The visual identity refresh process was a foundational step towards rebuilding a new website for TRIUMF. With this milestone completed, preliminary plans will be explored to begin a full rebuild of the website, but no concrete timelines have been identified yet.

To support our goal of consistent use of our refreshed visual identity, we’ve “reskinned” TRIUMF’s existing website platform (i.e. replaced the colour palette and logo on the external web pages) as a bridge solution to carry us to a website rebuild.

Should I replace my email signature? How?

Yes! Consider your email signature an electronic business card that includes the professional information required for your correspondent to contact you. You can find instructions on how to update your email signature here.

I am representing TRIUMF as part of a collaboration/project/partnership/etc. and TRIUMF’s logo is displayed somewhere to recognize the lab’s involvement. Should the logo be switched over?

Yes - and we’d love your help with this. We recognize the TRIUMF logo and elements of the lab’s visual identity can be found in many places. We’d appreciate your help to share our revised logo and brand identity guide with TRIUMF’s partners. Our new logo files and brand identity guide can be found here. You are welcome to share these with your collaborators/partners and invite them to use our revised visual identity. For additional support, please contact Diana Castañeda in TRIUMF’s Strategic Communications team at diana@triumf.ca.
